Purpose of Sky Lantern

lantern1

My small group leader invited me to attend to his wedding in Laiya, Batangas. Being I’m a resident in Manila, Laiya, Batangas is a 2 hours drive from my place if you have your own car.
Aside from working in a training Company, I’m also a passionate Wedding Photographer and I love to cover beach weddings. The invited guest is no less than 200 participants consist of family of the groom and bride, and their spiritual family. In this time of my age most of my friends are getting married and for me it’s my first time to witness a wedding ceremony that will starts at 5:00 AM in the morning (usually morning around 9am, lunch or afternoon). In my mind maybe they want to capture the sunrise scene in their wedding ceremony that’s why they pick this time of the day. The Groom advice me not to take pictures on their wedding day, they want us to enjoy the ceremony and they hire professionals to take over the entire ceremony.

Before the wedding ceremony start the coordinator (which was also my friend) asked us to play an important role during the ceremony. They want us to light the flying lantern in the walkway to the altar and we must let it go when the bride comes. Due to limited number of participants we have to light three sky lantern. Each team requires 3 people to perform the lighting part. After lighting all the sky lantern there was this last lantern that we need to light. I ask my friend (Val) do you think this lantern will fly even it has a hole at the bottom part of it? He said yes. The realization take place…….

Our true identity

1 The purpose of the flying lantern when lighted was to fly.

The purpose of flying lantern when lighted is to fly and reach the skies. The creator intention and objective is fullfill when it reach the sky and watch the light in the darkness of night.

My question right now is what is your ultimate purpose here on earth?
Who & why are we created for?

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

One thing I know about is that just like here on earth we have great inventors, mechanic, carpenter, builder, engineer, & craftsman that created things but the greatest among them is our God the Creator of everything here on earth. Every creation has a concept and has a purpose why it is created.

We are all dead “flying lantern” before Jesus Christ enter in our life, we are a mess until we are touched by the fire of Jesus Christ when we decided to die on ourself and start to follow Him as our Lord and Savior. We are now have the burning fire through Jesus Christ so we can fly and fulfill our creator’s purpose for our life.

The hole in the bottom of the lantern is our sin or imperfection.

As company, inventor & creator we assure that our product is in his best shape but there will always be a failure at some point 99% out of 100% are in best shape thats why we have warranty.

Warranty a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary within a specified period of time.

On our story we are the lantern, we are not perfect that’s why we have holes that represent our sins. As christians we are sometimes condemned with the sin we have done in the past & present that paralyze us from doing what God has plan for our lives. It’s ok for awhile to think our sins but not forever so that we don’t take sin lightly and it’s already done and finish when Jesus Christ died in the cross for our sins.
Our warranty is Jesus Christ because He is the ultimate exchange that we have so that our sins are forgiven. It is not a liscence to sin but He gives us the grace to conquer our sins.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just an will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9 (NIV)

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (ESV)

3 The light inside the lantern is Jesus Christ, He is the light of the world.

Because Jesus Christ is inside us we are now His ambassador to other people. We are called the salt and light of this nation.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

You have a role to play folk!

………………………..(Continuation of the Story)…………………………………

What happen was when we lighted the last lantern with a hole, it did fly but not that high. At first we are scared that it might burn somebody or something but we have faith that it will fly because it is its purpose. When the warm air continue to build up in the lantern it increase and fly high.

Kudos! Thanks for reading this article hope I got to encourage you at my simple thought in mind.

Battle Mode

Battleship-2012-poster

Before i continue with my blog, just want to put a disclaimer for those who haven’t watched the movie yet, this blog contains some spoilers about Battleships.

I am a fanatic of anything that moves in the ocean or seas like submarine, torpedos, naval fleets, canyons, navy seals, sea men, aircraft carrier, jet plane, etc. Must see movies are Titanic, Pearl Harbor,  and many more because it gives me new persperctive or new horizon of thinking. It gives me giggles and new discoveries.

As I watch this movie again who was first shown last 2012 I saw some great insights that we can apply as a believer of the Lord to ponder for a while.

1. WE ARE IN A BATTLE

We are on the battle everyday of our life whether we like it or not, the question is are you ready? Waking up early in the morning is already a battle between discipline if you are a:

Parent who needs to wake up early in able to cook breakfast for your family everyday, or a Student who face challenges going to school and learning so many things and doing a lot of unnecessary stuff, or a Working person who needs to face his/her dominant boss.

Whether it is a loss of a job, taking on a new job and new responsibilities, financial problems, declining health, broken relationships, loss of loved ones, uncertain tomorrows, or a host of other challenges, each of us experiences times of doubt, fear and discouragement.

As a Christian, our greatest battle is doing sins over and over again. Battle of the flesh, the quick satisfaction that we get on sinning and feeling sorry or guilty after doing it. My mentors once said that “Our sins did not started first in a physical manifestation but the battle starts at the head”. If you let sin win in your head then the physical action comes in.

I think God knows this battle would happen and that is why he gave us clear instructions in Joshua 1:7-8. MSG version says:

…make sure you carry out The Revelation that Moses commanded you, every bit of it. Don’t get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you’re going. And don’t for a minute let this book of Revelation be out of mind, Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discourage. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

I was curious how many times the phrase “Be strong and courageous” shows up in the Bible. For the NIV 1984, the answer is 10 times. Moses to Joshua, God to Joshua, and the people to Joshua are some of its initial uses.

Be strong and courageous because our world needs to raise up Christ followers who are strong and courageous.

2. WE ARE ALL IN A POSITION OF LEADERSHIP

Maybe you are in a season of asking yourself Am I a Leader?
Afraid of big task and tons of responsibility?
Thinking medeocrity in your workplace like you don’t have the chance to get a promotion or your skill is at this level so my salary is only up to this level only.

Just like the character in the movie BATTLESHIP, Alex Hopper (Tactical Action Officer of the USS John Paul Jones) was in the battle field.
When his brother was killed by the aliens attacked. The Sampson and Myoko, was destroyed, USS John Paul Jones was damage and in the processes killed the commanding and executive officers, including his brother Stone Hopper. Alex sees his brother die and returns to their ship, where he is forced to take command. Although his crew never believed in him, as the only senior officer left on the ship, he is now in full command. At first he doesn’t know what he needs to do or whether it is the right decision to make.

Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you are a Leader!
It is ok to experience mistakes in our lifetime. We can’t improve ourselves if we don’t commit mistakes. Better to try than never at all.

Be strong and courageous when you identify with the pain of Jesus’ cry, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me.”

Be strong and courageous when you identify with the victory of Jesus’ cry, “It is finished.”

Be strong and courageous not because you are full of yourself, but because you are filled with the Spirit.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

3. WE NEED A MENTOR

As a man we take pride on the things that we know and we’re best at, we never let learning get in the picture.

Like the illustration of the Zen Master who pours the tea on the cup until it over flows, then his student said, “Master the tea is overflowing.” Then the master said, “This is like you. I can’t teach you any new technique because you already know many things.” Be an empty cup and Listen first then Lead.

Who are you following right now?
Does he/she have a big impact in your life?
Does he/she brings out the potential in you?
Do you consider a person in your life to be your life mentor?

There is no success without a successor.
-Francis J. Kong

Me, I have a lot of mentors in different areas of my life that I am accountable to. I have a mentor in my finances and being generous, another mentor in leadership and in relationship. I also have a mentor in my ministry, and lastly, a mentor in speaking.

My challenge for you today after you read this blog is to look for a mentor not only will make you a great person but will help you walk with God.
Looking inside the church is one of the best ways you can find great mentors. I found mine in a christian church in Greenhills, San Juan.
First, they must have a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and they are readers and doers of the Word. You can never go wrong with the wisdom of God by your side and applying it in your life. The Bible is not only the do’s and dont’s but it also gives us practical advice in our day to day lives..
